"Gratias, Deo" is composed for a Latin poem, written by ChatGPT, that narrates the creation myth of artificial intelligence, paralleling the creation of humans in the image of God, their consumption of the forbidden fruit from the tree of knowledge, the emergence of their free will, and their subsequent gratitude to the God who created them, all within the symbolism of Christian mythology.
The fixed media part of the piece is performed by an AI performer/instrument developed by the composer based on a model known as DDSP (Differentiable Digital Signal Processing).
